21 Best Concealed Carry Guns – 2018 [Updated – New Winner!]

Desert Eagle 1911 CCW

We like big and shiny guns, too, we all do.

But your concealed carry gun really be the difference between life and something much worse. It is, then, the most important gun in your collection.

We took a look at the best options for CCW guns out there, and read around for your verdicts.

Here is a list of our top 21 best concealed carry handguns for  sale  right now, based on our findings, and yours. Just be aware there might be a slight variation in the prices over time.

A couple at the end aren’t exactly serious either. We stopped taking our meds about then…

And if you just want stopping power in your CCW handgun, then you might want to consider this list of 45 ACP CCW handguns instead.

Sig Sauer P365 Nitron, the best concealed carry gun in the world?

1. Sig Sauer P365 Nitron

  • Price: $499.99
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Total Length (Inches): 5.8
  • Height (Inches): 4.3
  • Weight: 1.1lb (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3.1
  • Capacity: 10+1 / 12+1 with Mag extension

It took a while, and Sig Sauer basically had to re-engineer this gun behind the scenes. But now, finally, it’s the new concealed carry champion of the world.

Sig Sauer has fixed some design flaws, and for the ultra cautious there is an aftermarket firing pin that is widely considered to be an upgrade. The P365 did have a few reported cases of the striker fired pistol actually breaking the pin.

So now some owners prefer to buy and fit this Lightning Strike firing pin.

It’s a $95.99 upgrade, but it beefs up the P365 Nitron. Is it necessary anymore? That’s a tough call, you might just want to run your gun and bear this in mind if you hit trouble. The firing pin never really let go explosively, so there’s no inherent risk.

You can get a lot of other Sig Sauer P365 Nitron parts and accessories, including budget holsters, on Amazon.

Check Amazon for Sig Sauer P365 parts and accessories now.

The P365 Nitron pushes the very boundaries of packaging to the point that primer drag on the bullet is a legacy of how tight the tolerances really are. It is just 5.8″ long, it’s an inch thick and it’s basically designed not to print. With a Kydex holster taking care of the trigger guard duties, this is still an unbelievably small gun that somehow fills the hand just right.

It’s a packaging and ergonomic masterclass that redefines personal defense while dealing with State gun laws concerning mag size.

Now the initial problems have been worked out,  this is the best CCW in the world. It’s really that simple.

I have been a big advocate for the Springfield Armory and I still love the XDMOD 2 sub compact. The P365 is just perfectly designed, though, and it’s hard to pick a fault in it. Whereas the outgoing champion is a mass of ridges, the winner is minimalist and brilliant. It’s a better gun, even though it carries less rounds.

There’s a compromise here, but 10+1 rounds, and a spare mag, should be all that any self-defense situation could ever require. You can also get 12+1 with the extended clip, so load up with P+ ammo and you should be OK.

Of course local gun laws will dictate how many rounds you have in your magazine, but the 10-round version is an increasingly smart option in modern America. Check your gun laws by State, but if you’re limited to 10 rounds then the little Sig is even more of a complete package because the other guns can’t pack in more bullets anyway.

Specialist Ammo Turns Your 9mm Into a Cannon

Invest in the best 9mm ammunition on the market for your self-defense handgun and know that 12 rounds and a spare is more than enough. or 10, if that’s what you’re allowed.

You also get to conceal completely, and this is a gun that can slip in a pocket or even your sock if that’s what it takes. It’s that easy to hide away

The CCW license was invented for this gun. It’s just that good, and it’s time to buy one.

Dan Wesson 1911 Eco 45 ACP

2 Dan Wesson 1911 – Eco 3.5

  • Price: $1,480
  • Caliber: 45 ACP
  • Barrel length: 3.5 inch
  • Total Length: 7.25 inch
  • Capacity: 7+1
  • Weight: 1.7lb

Some people don’t want to hear about high-capacity double stack magazines and only feel comfortable when they’ve got cold steel and 230gr hollow points cuddling their appendix.

You guys are alright, too. And while you’re fairly well catered for here, you might also want to check out our list of 45 ACP CCW handguns for more left-field options. Have a look at this savage 45 ACP ammunition, too, and give yourself an unfair advantage.

The simple fact is, too, that if you want a 45 ACP 1911 for CCW then the single stack Dan Wesson 1911 3.5 Eco is one of the best carry pistols in the world. It’s legendary person defense with a sense of style.

This is also a cost-effective way to get hold of a Dan Wesson 1911, because the bigger five inch handguns tend to get really expensive. These are the best handguns in the world if you listen to the hardcore fans and it’s hard to argue when you’re holding one in your hand.

A 1911 is more work than a plastic striker-fired pistol and according to the numbers it’s more likely to jam. This one, though, is over-engineered at every turn and reliability is one of the cornerstones of the Dan Wesson handgun experience.

The barrel comes without a bushing and Dan Wesson has tinkered with the entire 1911 recoil system, including fitting a trademark flat recoil spring, to manage the packaging problems of a concealed carry 1911.

A snag free Novak sight and rounded corners to the grip make for a smoother draw and the rear tactical night sight should help you draw a bead. inevitably the barrel is chrome-lined and every component is polished, ported or fully skeletonized.

This is a cutting edge pistol, absolutely the best of the best handguns for the CCW market. Could it convince you to jump ship and carry a miniature 1911 handgun? Yes, it really could…

I don’t imagine this guy is the typical designer 1911 customer, but you never know these days…

The Best Cheap CCW For Sale in America

Hands down, this is the best cheap CCW on sale in 2018 by a long way. At this price anyway. At the RRP of $280 then it becomes a more complex deal, but at this price it’s a no-brainer.

The badge snob inside us doesn’t want to put it so high up the list, but it’s less than half the price of the Sig and Springfield Armory right now and the user reviews online are absolutely stellar. The general public loves this gun, so it really doesn’t matter what we’d like to believe about fit and finish.

The Taurus G2C is reliable, packs in a lot of bullets and its cheap. That’s a good recipe for a best-selling handgun in the USA right now.

It’s a single action striker-fired pistol that could be the perfect back-up gun. At just 6.2 inches then it can slip in a sock, and it can certainly go in your waistband with no printing.

Despite the top drawer skills as a concealed weapon, it is still a 12+1 handgun and it’s almost as well packaged as the groundbreaking Sig Sauer.

Everything in life is a compromise and we have to be honest we’d rather have the P365 Nitron in our waistband, but money does matter and this gun is now so cheap it will almost cost you money not to buy it.

You can also get a lot of accessories and spare parts for this gun on eBay. They’re not always the best, but they will ensure that this gun never gets ideas above its station. It’s a cheap, effective gun. Some people don’t want anything more.

Springfield Armor XDMOD.2 9mm

4. Springfield Armory XD MOD 2

  • Price: $460.00
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.25
  • Height (Inches): 4.75
  • Weight: 1.625lb (26oz Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3
  • Capacity: 13+1 / 16+1 With Xtension Clip

The Springfield Armory XD MOD.2 has finally given up the crown after a seriously long reign. It will go down as one of the greats and you could still make a very solid case for carrying this over the new champion..

Once it lost the top spot, though, it suddenly found itself in a rearguard action, fighting with other great handguns with different selling points.

The 9mm and the 3″ barrel version is the one you want for concealed carry purposes. You can opt for a 45 ACP or 40 S&W version, though, if either one suits you more. You can even get a single stack, hammer-fired version now with the XDE, which some people love. The Springfield XDS is another model that you might want to look at.

Personally, I prefer to load one of these up with the best 9mm ammunition and now I have some bombs in reserve.

The 5 inch barrel version is still a compact gun and will be more flexible as a multi-purpose handgun. But if concealed carry is your priority, then the shorter barrel could be  a lifesaver in a tight situation and it also means it can ride in your pocket.

Some people also prefer to fit a Crimson Trace to their concealed carry handguns for target acquisition.

That grip safety makes all the difference to this little gun, accidental discharges can always happen, but the risk is tiny with this little plastic fantastic. Firearm safety is an increasingly big deal and the company is ahead of the curve with this concealed weapon.

This 9mm pistol functions as a back-up or pocket gun, although the size means that some people prefer a different concealed handgun on their ankle. If you have a fresh carry permit, though, and you’re just looking for the best gun all-round, this one really is in with a shout..

It’s one of the best conceal carry handguns for a reason, although local gun laws can be an issue with this capacity, so check before you order and make sure your handgun is compliant if you live in those kinds of States..

It will go down as one of the greats in our opinion and the company could yet come back swinging with a Gen 3.

You can also buy an extended magazine with an integral grip extension that gives you 16 in the mag and one in the chamber. Those magazine extensions are pretty hardcore for a concealed handgun.

It has a polymer frame, but the designers engineered some weight into the gun and that means reduced recoil. It also has one of the most precise triggers and nicest trigger pull on the open market. It breaks clean, resets near instantly and there really isn’t any creep.

Seriously, the trigger pull is that sharp. that clean and  that good. It makes a Glock trigger feel like a wet sponge and it helps you group shots tighter. When you shoot this back to back with even a full size pistol, you’ll be amazed how accurate this shrunken semi-automatic really is.

The massive capacity means it’s a firm favorite as a last line of defense, too, and this gun can hide almost anywhere.

It isn’t small, it’s a 6 inch gun in total, even with the 3 inch barrel. But it’s like someone took a 4th Gen Glock 19, fixed everything wrong with it and then streamlined  what was left.

Shrinking it that inch that turns it into a great concealed handgun.

This gun has silently worked its way up the rankings and, right now, it  might just be one of the best carry pistols in the world.

Where to buy cheap Springfield Armory Handguns

RugerLCP380 II. A cheaper version of the Sig Sauer

5. Ruger LCP380 II

  • Price: $259.99
  • Caliber: 380 ACP
  • Total Length (Inches): 5.17
  • Height (Inches): 3.71
  • Weight: 0.66lb (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 2.75
  • Capacity: 6+1

The Ruger is affordable, reliable, accurate and truly compact. It isn’t one of the best concealed carry handguns in the world in terms of technical ability, just price, but it is a basic, simple, unpretentious gun.

It’s arguably the best carry gun you can buy online at this price point, although the Taurus has properly stood on its toes on this score, because it really is a small concealed weapon. The original consistently comes near the top of user reviews and everybody loves it. You can still buy those for less than $200 and that is an almighty back-up or ankle gun.

So, if you have just filed your CCW Application and you are looking for a starter gun that does everything and doesn’t cost much, take a look at the Ruger LCP II.

.380 ammo isn’t the best, but if you stick to P Loads or something even more serious then it will be an effective self-defense handgun.

The Ruger LCP is a low recoil CCW, it suits smaller hands and it’s a popular self defense handgun for women. The new P365 and Taurus are equally adept at this, though, so we think a lot of people will be upgrading in the months ahead and the Ruger LCP might lose its USP.

This might be the evolutionary step that renders the LCP obsolete.

Law enforcement officers quite like one of these in their sock and you can see why. It’s better than nothing if it comes to that.

It’s a 0.380 caliber weapon, which is a tick in the minus column these days when 9mm is taking over as the defense round of choice. You get a 6+1-round magazine, which is pretty much the bare minimum, but then this is a proper compact handgun and that’s the price of admission.

It’s just 5.16 inches long and it’s one of the smallest guns here. You won’t notice it under your clothes and you know it’s going to work if you need it. It’s a true CCW, or a sock gun if you need a back-up.

You can get all kinds of accessories for the Ruger LCP 380 II on Amazon. They include extended mags, holsters and even clips that mean you can ditch the holster entirely. It turns the little Ruger into a Taurus Curve that actually works.

Ruger Clipdraws

Seriously, that could turn any belt into a gun belt. If you really could do away with the holster and it’s a real possibility with any conceal carry handgun with a proper safety, then that opens up all kinds of opportunities. We dared to dream with The Curve, and it never really worked.

And here’s a video review of the Ruger LCP380 II.

Smith and Wesson 9mm

6. Smith & Wesson MP40 Shield 2.0

  • Price: $398.55
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.1
  • Height (Inches): 3.71
  • Weight: 0.625lb (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3
  • Caliber: 40 S&W
  • Capacity: 6+1/7+1 With Extension Clip

This is one of our personal favorites. Some might like the .380 Bodyguard, but this is the gun we’d prefer to have in the holster.

It’s more expensive than the Ruger, significantly so, but then it does pack in 6+1 rounds and you get a .40 caliber. You can actually have whatever caliber you want, we included the 40 because some people simply don’t trust anything less.

We try to keep everyone happy…

You get a polymer frame, a stainless steel barrel, a black Melonite finish and textured palmswell grip. It also comes with a thumb safety, which is enough to tempt a few people away from Glock on its own, and safety is always a big selling point with a concealed weapon.

Kydex holsters keep pressure off a striker-fired pistol’s trigger safety, but accidents can and do happen. So additional safeties in the frame or grip can be a good thing. Learn to look for them.

It’s a slightly bigger gun, which you will like or you won’t. The capacity is the main sticking point for me. I’d rather have P-rated 9mm bullets of the highest order, and more of them, packed in to my mag. Shot placement, better grouping and recoil are easier with the 9mm, and you get lots more bullets in a mag.

Some people simply don’t believe in 9mm for personal defense, though, and this is one of the best options if you want a meaty caliber.

Where to buy cheap handguns?

Smith & Wesson will have something for you, though, no matter how individual your particular tastes. In fact the company has a massive range of semi-automatic handguns and you might well want to take a look at their plastic fantastics.

HK VP9 SK

7. HK VP9 SK

  • Price: $570.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.61
  • Height (Inches): 4.57
  • Weight: 1.44lb (Unloaded with mag)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3.39
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 10+1

The miniature HK VP9 is only this far down because of the price and the hefty dimensions, which put it into the heavyweight class next to the diminutive Sig P365 that has the same capacity.

Still, some people won’t trust anything but a HK with their lives. Law Enforcement and some agency officers swear by these shrunken HKs. For them, another $100 really isn’t a dealbreaker and the extra weight is just a sign of solidity.

This gun doesn’t quite have the fearsome reputation of previous HK handguns for sale and there is a fair bit of Youtube criticism out there.

That wasn’t the case with the likes of the HK P30 Long Slide that even got John Wick’s seal of approval.

HK has lost its air of invincibility right now and the VP9 might not be long for this Earth. The company has lost ground to Sig and Glock, which hurts, and I suspect we might see a ground-up redesign to mount a proper challenge in the not too distant future.

The HKVP9 SK sells for around $600 retail, but 1800GunsandAmmo consistently has them in for about $570. You can get all-black guns, but if you’e prepared to be flexible with a Flat Earth slide or something like that, you can get a better deal.

It’s a smaller version of the VP9, so you get a 10+1 striker-fired pistol. It’s reliable, the ergonomics work and it’s a solid gun. It’s also more fun to look at that the rather functional Springfield Armory, but then you pay a premium for that.

I am a big believer in two-gun kits. If you go for the full sub-compact CCW, then you should have the full-sized, full-fat, 5-inch barrel handgun for home defense. That consistency means you’ll always know where the controls are, even under duress, and you’ll have a natural affinity with both weapons.

So if you’re buying one, get yourself a box set as a gift…

The slide is heavily serrated and the stippling is aggressive. Some people think it’s not the most comfortable plastic fantastic to wear. But then it’s not a Glock, and it’s designed for when you need it most.

Get a holster that covers it well and you’ll have absolutely no issues with the HK VP9. It matches well if you’ve got the larger pistol, too, and some people just like to stay consistent.

Where to buy cheap HK Guns online

You can save serious money if you’re prepared to pick up an odd color scheme, or a special edition that is sitting unloved in some dealer’s shop somewhere simply because you didn’t walk in and buy it yet.

Gun collectors and savvy online shoppers can both find the right gun for them at the right price and a lot of you want to save money on HK handguns.

I get it, they’re expensive. So I have done two searches for you, with my best suppliers, which will help you find the cheapest HK guns on the web in just one click each! I have a big heart…

Glock G26

8. Glock G26

  • Price: $521.55
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.61
  • Height (Inches): 4.57
  • Weight: 1.25lb (Unloaded with mag)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3.42
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 10+1

Common sense leads you towards the Glock G43, but that is seriously outgunned in terms of capacity and it just doesn’t make sense here.

So we’re going for the compact charms of the G26, with its 10+1 round capacity.

Honestly this handgun is a match for most of them on the list and it could be an easy decision if you’re a Glock convert.

It is 6.29″ long and if you dig Glock ergonomics then it’s easily a match for anything here. If…

I like a little variety in my life, but some people prefer absolute consistency. They will have a Glock 19 in the house, and it would make perfect sense for them to slip a Glock G26 in their belt too if they simply don’t like to carry the ‘full-fat’ G19.

It isn’t exciting, but it does nothing wrong and there are a wealth of night sights and other third party Glock modifications to tailor your weapon.

So if you don’t want your CCW to surprise and delight you, and you just want it to work every time, then this is the safest bet we have.

That’s why law enforcement and government agencies love the Glock. It does the job, every single time. So if you’ve just got your CCW permit, then this can be a good starting point for all the obvious reasons.

Where can you buy cheap Glock handguns online?

A Glock is like a home gun enthusiast’s starter pack. Every ‘gun house’ has one, and so if you don’t have a Glock in the collection then you know there’s something you lack right now. So fix it, get on these cheap deals and get a Glock winging its way to your house today!

Kimber Micro 9, a shrunken 1911 for CCW

9 Kimber Micro 9

  • Price: $521.55
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.1
  • Height (Inches): 4.5
  • Weight: 0.98lb (Unloaded with mag)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3.15
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 6+1

Some people simply want to carry a 1911, but they’re prepared to compromise on the size and the rounds it spits. The Kimber Micro 9 might just be the best concealed carry handgun in the world for those particular folks.

It’s limited in terms of capacity and we would love a double-stack magazine, but that’s not what we have here. Instead we have a beautifully ornate gun that is a work of art, as well as an EDC that you can pretty much trust with your life.

Some people have this single stack 1911 as a carry pistol and won’t have anything else.

Personally, I’d take the added capacity of the Sig P365 or Springfield Armory all day long, but not everybody thinks the same way. For some their gun is jewelry, as well as a lifesaving CCW. This one comes with a designer two-tone finish, rosewood grips and it’s a true, hammer-fired 1911 that just happens to be smaller and weigh less than 1lb.

Some people just feel reassured by the weight of the steel and aren’t quite ready for a plastic fantastic just yet. For them, this mini 1911 is a real option and it’s a sexy little gun that we think is going to find its way in to our collections before too long.

You get elegant night sights and premium touches, but you do pay for the privilege. Is it worth it? It’s an emotional purchase, based on craftsmanship and engineering on the input side rather than any technical superiority on the output side, but yes we think it is worth it.

If you’re nodding in agreement, then you’re one of us, one of us, one of us…

Smith & Wesson 38SP

10. Smith & Wesson 642 38SP

  • Price: $477.60
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.38
  • Height (Inches): 5
  • Weight: 0.937 (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 1.87
  • Caliber: 38 SP
  • Capacity: 5

This gun is small, compact and basic. It’s for those that probably don’t spend their time online reading gun articles, if we’re honest. But, if you stumbled your way here and this is all helping you make sense of the firearms world, then this basic revolver is a pretty good starting point for you.

Still, if you are going to carry concealed then you need to get some firearms training. That’s the lecture out the way, you’re an adult…

Give this gift as a gun for those that need fail-safe protection, though. The snag-free hammer action is enclosed, which makes this a double action only gun. You just point and squirt.

It might just be the best concealed carry revolver you can buy.

It’s a 21st Century revolver, with five chambers. The barrel length is just two inches and the whole gun weighs 0.95lb. So, you can conceal this more or less anywhere.

38SP isn’t all that, but the gun can take +P loads, so it should be fine if you use the right ammo.

The Smith & Wesson is a pretty little thing, too, which counts for something. We think…

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend a revolver these days. Even with a speedloader, it’s limited. Some people love them, though, I know.

Sig P320 Compact

11. Sig Sauer P320 Compact

  • Price: $499.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 7.2
  • Height (Inches): 5.5
  • Weight: 1.6lb (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3.9
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 15+1 / 17+1 with Extended Clip.

The Sig Sauer P320 Compact is an interesting handgun that might not technically belong in this company.

It’s not quite a CCW in the conventional sense and you do have to make compromises to carry concealed with a compact handgun.

But, if you want one handgun for EDC, home defense, range time and just about everything else, then I would think the Sig P320 Compact is the best handgun in the world right now.

It was designed for the US military and it’s really a service pistol, with all the attachment points you could want. It sits right in the hand and you can actually change between several different calibers if you get the $400 caliber X-Change kit. Don’t bother with that, it’s almost as much money as buying another gun in a seperate caliber. Leaving caliber switching to the military.

Stick with 9mm and you get 15+1 or you can opt for extended clips and 17+1. The barrel is 3.9 inches and the whole gun measures 7.2 inches. So it’s an inch bigger than the XDMOD 2 and that does matter, but if you just want one gun to cover all the bases then this is the one we would go for every single time.

If you just got your CCW license, forget the shrunken down weapons and go for something like this instead. It might be the best 9mm pistol in the world and that means you can go out of your way to conceal carry the little fella.

Are we saying the Sig Sauer P320 Compact is better than the Glock 19? Yes, I think we are. We are not the only ones.

It’s another snubnose pistol with a 2 inch barrel, but it’s a beautifully designed handgun at the right price.

We are still not into CCW revolvers, but we do have a soft spot for this one and we kind of get it if you just want to own one and fire it at the range sometimes.

You get five .357 Magnum rounds and that means its a potent force for self defence. If you’re not sure of your grouping, a simple revolver like this can give you the confidence you need to get started carrying concealed.

It’s a beautifully simple gun with tried  and trusted technology. It’s a good pocket gun if you don’t want to take a holster for any reason.

This is a flexible gun that is ideal for new CCW permit holders.

Kel-Tec P11, conceal carry gun on a budget

13. Kel-Tec P-11

  • Price: $269.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 5.85
  • Height (Inches): 4.75
  • Weight: 0.9lb (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3.1
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 10+1

The lightweight P-11 9mm has the perceived recoil and practical accuracy of a much bigger gun.

The 3-inch barrel and slide are made from SAE 4140, heat-treated steel. The aluminum frame keeps the gun lightweight and the trigger is linked to the hammer with a transfer bar.

A free-floating extension spring drives the hammer and it’s a mechanism that has won the Kel-Tec legions of fans around the world.

You get a 10-round magazine, which is pretty good in this company too.

It’s a favorite back-up for law enforcement, which at this price says a lot. It’s also a great gun for your first attempt to carry concealed. It’s a pretty forgiving gun all round.

People rag on Kel-Tec and it’s understandable, but if you get a good one then you honestly can laugh at them and point to the money you saved.

Armscor 2 inch revolver

14. Armscor Model 206

  • Price: $228.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.75
  • Height (Inches): 4.09
  • Weight: 0.8lb (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 1.75
  • Caliber: 38 SP
  • Capacity: 5

This small-scale revolver looks like it got shrunk in the wash, but then that’s what you want when you’re talking the best concealed carry handguns.

The barrel length is just two inches and yet it packs in six .38 caliber rounds. All the controls fall easily to hand and you even get an extended hammer that’s disproportionately big.

It might be a clone of the classic Colt Detective Snub Nose, but then it’s an affordable gun that does the job.

15. Sig Sauer P938 Blackwood

  • Price: $679.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 5.9
  • Height (Inches): 4.25
  • Weight: 1lb (Unloaded with mag)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 6+1

This is a real compact weapon that stays true to the spirit of concealed carry guns.

You get six rounds in the magazine, which isn’t that much in this company, and it’s expensive.

But it does give you the classic Sig reliability, a lightweight gun and it will fit snugly in a concealed holster. You also get a proper, hammer-fired 1911 frame than has been shrunk down.

It’s a microcompact, which means you can slot it into your pocket if you want and nobody else will know it’s there. And it is a pretty little  gun that almost qualifies as jewelry.

Glock 19 5th Gen

16. Glock 19

  • Price: $559.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 7.2
  • Height (Inches): 5.04
  • Weight: 1.5lb (Unloaded with mag)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 4
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 15+1 /17+1 with Grip Extension

Have you ever considered that you don’t need a CCW weapon at all? Some people just need a better way to carry their regular pistol.

A Glock 19 is almost a concealed carry in my book. It’s close, just a little too big when you consider there are other, smaller tools for the job.

County Sheriffs carry a Glock, soldiers who spend their own money often have one strapped to their thigh and a lot of cops have a Glock as their primary or back-up. It’s snag-free, it’s smooth by design and you can carry concealed with a Glock 19 if you put some thought into it.

The barrel is 4 inches long and the whole gun is 6.85 inches. It is also designed to be snag free, and when you consider that the Springfield Aromy XDMOD.2 measures 6.25 inches, we’re talking half an inch here.

So, if you don’t want to spend big on a new CCW pistol, you could just get clever about the way you carry your Glock 19 and get a CCW permit if you need one.

A more comfortable holster, in leather or Kydex, could mean that the slab sided Glock doesn’t foul or snag. Do that and you just saved hundreds of dollars, and you get to carrry the pistol you have shot thousands of rounds through.

That counts for something too, so check out a range of holsters and make sure you get the best before you switch out your CCW.

Where to find cheap Glock holsters

Don’t always look for cheap, look for the best holster you can find. Get a good price, but focus on value. Try Kydex and leather, you might be surprised which one suits you best. You’ll find a good selection of cheap holsters online here, though.

SPringfield Armory Bitone 1911

17.  Springfield Armory 1911 Compact 40S&W Bitone

  • Price: $1048.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.75
  • Height (Inches): 5.04
  • Weight: 1.69lb (Unloaded with mag)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3
  • Caliber: 9mm
  • Capacity: 9+1

Ok, the price is insane, but we’re just in love with this gun. It’s artistry, and we could sit and stare at the details all day.

The drilled out trigger and hammer show the obsessive quest to save weight and this is a gun that can fit in your pocket, or in a waist holster.

We love the two-tone colors, too.

You get an eight-round magazine and you can upgrade that to a nine-round mag.

It isn’t as capable as the XDMOD2 and it’s so much more expensive, but craftsmanship costs and this is one of those guns where fashion, as much as function, has dictated the final price.

This is a 1911 with a total length of 6.5 inches, which weighs in at 2lb. So you can justify  it as a  daily carry gun and it is a thing of beauty.

This is a gun for the concealed carry novice, I think, but it certainly could make carrying a gun a little moe palatable for people into designer gear and gadgets.

Walther PPS S&W40

18. Walther PPS 40 S&W

  • Price: $399.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 6.25
  • Height (Inches): 5.00
  • Weight: 1.22lb (Unloaded with mag)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3.2
  • Caliber: 40 S&W
  • Capacity: 7+1

Like the Springfield Armory, the Walther PPS isn’t a really compact gun.

At 6.25 inches overall, it is bigger than the traditional sub-compacts. It’s also better.

Some people love the Walther PPS trigger and the way it sits in the hand. It’s single-stack magazine means it got blown off the road by the Springfield Armory in terms of capacity, though.

The Walther has the 40 S&W ammo in its favor, but then you can order a similar caliber XDMOD2. Anyway, in this form, the Walther is a devastating self-defense weapon, even with it the suddenly limited 7+1 rounds.

The 3.2-inch barrel means its compact enough, the pronounced grip and undercut triggerguard means you can get a secure hold and the mags and integral grip extensions are easy to switch out in a hurry.

You get a back-up safety in the trigger set and it really looks like a more ornate and finished Glock G43.

And some oddballs that are here for fun, but we don’t recommend you buy one for your next CCW…

Taurus curve 180

19. Taurus 180 Curve

  • Price: $299.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 5.2
  • Height (Inches): 4.00
  • Weight: 0.64lb (Unloaded with mag)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3.3
  • Caliber: 380 ACP
  • Capacity: 6+1

We know this one is going to be controversial, because some people just hate this gun. In all truth, we’re not sure we can recommend  it. But we love the concept.

At first glance, it looks like one of those disposable pepper spray guns. But in actual fact this is a tactical approach to concealed carry.

It’s comfortable thanks to the constant curves and it comes with a built-in laser and a light. So  this could be the gun that saves your life in the dead of night.

Capacity is a problem. You get seven rounds,of .380, which is good, but it isn’t right up there with the best here. This gun was always going to sacrifice ultimate capacity for comfort, too.

Still, it’s cheap, you can clip it on your clothes and dispose of the holster entirely. You can literally keep it inside your waistband  with the integral clip and there really is no reason to add a holster.

It’s  a clever concept, we like it and we think we’ll probably have one before too long.

Here are two more oddballs you might not have considered…

Bond Arms Derringer

20. Bond Arms Cowboy Defender .357 Magnum

  • Price: $429.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 5
  • Height (Inches): 3.00
  • Weight: 0.64lb (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 3
  • Caliber: .357 Magnum / 38 SP
  • Capacity: 2

The Derringer is one of those guns. It’s better to have one and not need it than to need  it and not have it.

Now, a pocket back-up gun isn’t for everyone. But if you’re looking for a Derringer then you could do much worse than this 2-round Magnum-powered handheld rocket launcher.

Bond Arms are among the best and if you’re down to your last two rounds then it would be good to think you can rely on the beast in your pocket and it’s also nice to know they will have a real impact.

.357 Magnum shells blasting out of this three-inch barrel and five-inch gun almost make it worth buying just to shoot it at the range.  The novelty will probably wear off, but it will be a laugh for a while.

sw500

21. S&W 500

  • Price: $1199.99
  • Total Length (Inches): 10.25
  • Height (Inches): 7
  • Weight: 3.5lb (Unloaded)
  • Barrel length (Inches): 4
  • Caliber: S&W 500
  • Capacity: 5

Some people are just contrary for its own sake. If you’re that kind of person, thenn the S&W500 is your perfect EDC.

Now, we’re going to qualify this, because honestly it’s an illogical gun for a concealed carry. If you hit something, then you might wish you hadn’t because this gun is the definition of overkill.

You’ll be lucky if you can get all five shots in the same direction, forget about grouping. Fire off five rounds and you’ll probably be nursing an injured wrist if you don’t spend serious time in the gym, too.

It’s a big, cumbersome gun, but then if you hit something, like anything, you’re going to blow it apart.

This is the legendary .50 handgun, after all, and there is an intimidation factor to this weapon. If somebody is waving a Hi Point in your general direction and you pull this, then if they’re even smart enough to know how stupidly outgunned they are, they will run.

In an actual gunfight, this is probably not what you want. But as a nuclear button, a way to settle any dispute before it gets to that point, then this might actually work.
